Property for sale in Elche, Alicante, Spain

Properties in Elche, in the province of Alicante which is part of the wider Valencian Community, tend to be very competitively priced, and you will be pleasantly surprised when you see how much more you can get for your money when you venture inland and away from the property hot spots on the coast. Elche (or Elx, to give it its Valencian name) has a population of around 220,000 making it the second most populated city in Alicante province. The city centre is around 15 kilometres from the coast, though outlying areas of Elche can be much nearer to the beaches of the Costa Blanca.

23 kilometres inland from Alicante (only 12 kilometres from the airport) Elche is well placed to explore the Costa Blanca. Elche has the largest palm grove in Europe, estimated to have between 200 and 300 thousand palm trees and declared a World Heritage Ste by UNESCO in 2000. The palm trees and the stunning Moorish architecture of Elche give the city an exotic, North African atmosphere.

Elche is packed with sites of historical interest – the Altamira Palace, the Basilica Santa Maria, a Moorish fortress and Moorish baths. Elche also has an outstanding municipal park, outdoor swimming pool and sports park. Near Elche is the Rio Safari Park – a wonderful day out for the whole family. Elche’s Fiesta Patronales every August is one of Spain’s best known fiestas, and the Miseri d’Elx has been performed here every year since the 13th century.

The Elche Property Market

Elche has all the amenities you would expect – it is well served with schools, including several international schools. It’s an excellent shopping centre, with a thriving street market on Mondays and Saturdays and a craft market on Sundays. The coast is 20 minutes’ drive away, and there are good motorway links giving easy access to other areas of Spain. Most of our properties in Elche are country houses, fincas, cortijos and villas – many on the outskirts of the town centre, in a semi-rural setting, near to the coast.
