Country Properties for sale in Elda, Alicante

Properties in inland Spain are becoming an increasingly attractive proposition for the buyers who want their money to go much further than is possible on the coast. Elda is a thriving town in Alicante, inland of the Costa Blanca, with a population of around 55,000. Its closest neighbour, Petrer (the two towns are separated by one street) combines with Elda to create the largest urban area of El Vinalopo Mitja, a richly fertile area of mainly agricultural land, dotted with almond groves and vineyards.

Elda is a prosperous town, famous for producing leather goods, particularly shoes – its shoe museum is well worth a visit. The town's origins can be traced back to Moorish times; the beautiful Church of Santa Ana was originally a mosque. If you want to live in a real Spanish community but don't yearn for rural isolation then Elda may be exactly what you are looking for: there are schools and a University; a recently built hospital; a 10-screen cinema; a huge Carrefour supermarket and numerous other shops; a large indoor market which is open 6 days a week and even a drive-through McDonald's! Venture just beyond the town borders, however, and you are in the heart of some of Spain's most beautiful countryside and only 30 minutes' drive from the glorious beaches of the Costa Blanca.

Elda is well connected – its train station has high speed rail links to Alicante, Murcia and the rest of Spain. Alicante is just 36 kilometres away and the nearest golf is at Alenda – less than 20 kilometres away.
