Approaching Sax, the first thing you will notice is the impressive 14th century castle perched at the summit of a rocky outcrop – the town nestles at the base of the hill. The castle dominates the skyline – particularly at night when it is lit up and can be seen for miles around. The name Sax derives from the Latin ‘saxum’ which means rocky place. Sax is reliant on agriculture and you will see that all around you in the vineyards, olive and citrus groves, and fields of grain and cereal crops. Another source of revenue for Sax is leatherwork – particularly shoe making. This is Real Spain, with a genuine community feel – people live and work here all year round; not just in the tourist season. The first week of February is when the residents of Sax celebrate with their annual Moors and Christians festival – a time when businesses shut and everyone joins in the feasting and celebrations.

Properties in Sax tend to be townhouses, fincas and country houses – some ready to move into; some are properties for reform. There are enough shops in Sax to meet basic day-to-day needs, and the larger urban centres of Elda and Petrer are only around 11 kilometres away. 15 kilometres away is the golf course at Alenda. Sax is ideally situated right next to the main N330 motorway – giving easy access to the airport at Alicante, around 32 kilometres.
